Message Forum re-opens! What we learned about vBulletin...
Category:News Posted: Feb 2, 2010
Synopsis: WebsiteCM's message forum has been re-opened as X-Cart SEO Message Forum at x-cart-seo.com.
When we first created our message forum using vBulletin we did so with the intent to fully integrate the account login information with WebsiteCM to prevent duplicate accounts. We performed extensive customizations to create a two-way registration integration with vBulletin and X-Cart. We were very proud of the end result, but in time this resulted in two issues:
Spam Accounts Our message forum integration limited our ability to prevent spam account registrations with settings such as valid email verification and captcha.
Upgrading Difficulty The customization made it difficult to simply reupload vBulletin's php files as part of the upgrade process. vBulletin recently went through a string of upgrades and we didn't have the time available to continuously perform the customized upgrades.
To address the above two issues, we've moved the Message Forum to our partner domain at X-Cart-SEO.com. The user databases of WebsiteCM and X-Cart-SEO are now separated, however if you previously registered on the forums your username/password are still valid on both WebsiteCM and the X-Cart SEO Forums.
Jon and WebsiteCM did an absolutely fantastic job on our dynamic order form. There were a lot of display complexities that we needed to work out on the fly, but Jon went through each variation patiently and professionally. It took longer than we expected, but Jon stuck to his original quote. I give him and his company our highest recommendation and would absolutely use him for future projects.
