Default XNews SEO issues

Hi Jon,

I've been having some issues with XNews from the SEO standpoint. Perhaps some of that is easily fixable, so your comments will be appreciated.

The first issue is that all content under Xnews has duplicate Meta description and Keywords taken from the homepage. Off course that got flagged by G through the webmaster tool. Any way to create those 2 fields plus a nofollow/noindex meta? Something like the free BCSE Meta Mod for static pages?

Secondly, since the mod is embedded within the cart, the crawler has go go through all the x-cart crap prior to getting to the nuts and bolts. Unfortunately, the architecture of the cart pushes Xnews content to almost the bottom of the page, making it even harder for search discovery. Granted, that can be solved with CSS, but I am worry about screwing up some php code. Any suggestions on how to improve this?

Thirdly, any possibilities to integrate Xnews with a blog platform, so that we can also use the same Wordpress mods?

Thanks for your time.

Augusto

1) Meta Tags: We are planning to implement this functionality into future versions but it is not currently available.

2) You can use CSS in the x-cart templates without causing any php issues, and can move around the include to display in different areas of your x-cart as needed.

3) I don't believe this would be feasible as wordpress and x-cart are two very different architechtures.

Jon,

Thanks for your response. It will be great to have the meta fields available, specially description. Meta keywords are not really relevant for Google, but Yahoo and MSN. Any idea when you'll have the update?

Glad to hear that the include is all it needs to be moved. Even though we decided to go with a blogging platform, I think I can still use Xnews for other purposes within the commerce site.

Thanks,

Augusto
