Default Directory Submissions

What are your thoughts on directory submissions for SEO? .. Of course not all backlinks are created equal.

It really depends on your strategy and niche. Since Google manually decreased the value of several directories that were selling links, the concepts of take-it-all directories is dying. However, there is a list of die-to-hard directories that are worth submitting. Age is a big factor for directories.

My personal choice is to go for niche directories that pass link juice. Keep in mind that some directories are not SEO friendly; hence, they can even hurt you instead of helping you. So it's important to check header referrers, robots.txt, analyze link profile, age and other factors.

If you have a quality site submit it to our natural, organic products and supplements directory. Informational sites are given a priority. Make sure to read the guidelines before submitting. Otherwise your site will have a very high chance to be rejected.

But there's a thing you can get as many as links from directory submissions.

Not if those links are completely useless (ie. no value at all) now, at least to Google. Matt Cutt from Google has stated it openly that links from 2nd tier directories are hugely devalued or completely ignored by Google now. That is validated by many of our sites too. We submitted to hundreds of directories, many with page rank as high as PR 4/5. Completely no effect on the rankings after more than 2 months. But when we add links from other sources, they started to improve. I have to conclude that it is a waste of time to do directories submission now. We stopped doing it and yet our new sites are doing well on Google.

Default Wikis are better than directories

Why don't you post an article to Wikicommerce.org and other similar wikis. I bet it's more effective than 10 link directory submissions.

Default Directory Submission

Directory submission is a great techniques in seo. I think you should submit your directory in most appropriate category of the directory and try to submit your directory in main category, do not go to further and further subcategory.
