We sell software and in an older version of X-Cart (v3.5.8) we had made media available as a suggested product whenever a product was ordered and an extended download service is automatically populated (through a modification to cart.php) whenever a product is ordered (where the customer has the option to remove that product from the shopping cart if they wish).

We are now upgrading to v4.1.9 and retooling much of this functionality. Is there a module that would support this kind of functionality rather than needing to rewrite all of this manually? Is there already a function that can be selected in the Admin backend or when a product is specified that would support this?

Is it possible to specify a specific product(s) as a recommended product rather than having this list be randomly populated?

You can enable the Upselling Links which allows you to manually recommend products for a specific product (we also have an ezRecommends module ([url]http://www.websitecm.com/x-cart-mods/ezrecommends.html[/url]) that extends this and offers recommendations during checkout).
