Synopsis: Matt Cutts warns not to cloak. This x-cart seo article applies this warning to x-cart search engine optimization modules.
Matt Cutts, a google software engineer and seo authority, recently spoke about cloaking in an SMX interview and in a post on his blog. Cloaking is a subject we touched on last month in our blog post Ensure your x-cart seo mods don't cloak or your google listings might croak!
Some x-cart seo modules, such as XCSEO Basic, attempt to prevent duplicate content by offering different content to users than search engines. Matt Cutts definition of cloaking is "serving different content to users than to Googlebot." When asked about the risk involved in cloaking and the possibility of being black-listed by Google, Matt says: "the short answer: it's very risky."
WebsiteCM's CDSEO Pro Search Engine Optimization module for X-Cart, does not uses cloaking, and instead uses robots.txt as recommended.
Note: Matt Cutts spoke on cloaking and not anything x-cart related. Presented here is our interpretation of what he said as it relates to x-cart. This issue as we understand does not apply to XCSEO Pro.
